Frequently asked questions
How do fancy fonts work on Discord?
They aren’t real fonts. Each letter is swapped for a look-alike Unicode symbol (for example mathematical bold letters), so the style survives copy and paste anywhere.
Can I use these fonts in my Discord username?
No. Usernames only allow lowercase letters, numbers, _ and . — but display names, server nicknames, server names, channel names and messages accept fancy fonts.
Why do some letters show as boxes?
A few older devices lack some Unicode symbols. Bold, italic and small caps are the most widely supported.
Is fancy text bad for accessibility?
Screen readers may read fancy letters oddly or skip them. Use them for short names and titles rather than whole messages.
