How to use the Twitch Chat Overlay for OBS

  1. Type your Twitch channel name. The preview shows sample messages so you can style it before going live.
  2. Pick a font, size and style. Use Bubbles for a readable background on busy gameplay.
  3. Click Copy, then in OBS add a Browser source, paste the URL and set it to about 400 × 600.
  4. Crop or resize the source in OBS to fit your layout. New messages appear at the bottom.

Tips for a readable chat overlay

  • Size 22–28 px reads well at 1080p. Go bigger if many viewers watch on phones.
  • Bubbles or an outline keep text readable over bright or busy gameplay.
  • Hide after 30–60 seconds keeps old messages from cluttering the screen during quiet moments.
  • Want it on a TikTok or YouTube stream? Add the same browser source. It shows your Twitch chat wherever you stream.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add Twitch chat to OBS?

Create your overlay on this page, copy the URL, then in OBS click + under Sources → Browser and paste it. The background is transparent, so only the messages show on stream.

Do I need to log in with Twitch?

No. The overlay reads your public chat anonymously, just like a logged-out viewer. It cannot post messages or access your account.

Does it show 7TV, BTTV and FFZ emotes?

Yes. Global and channel emotes from 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ load automatically once the overlay connects to your channel.

What happens when a mod deletes a message or bans someone?

Deleted messages disappear from the overlay straight away, and so do all messages from users who are banned or timed out.

Can I hide Nightbot and other bots?

Yes. Common bots are hidden by default, and you can edit the list. Messages starting with ! (commands) can be hidden too.
